FASA participated in the 10th ASEAN Media Forum, held in Manila, the Philippines, from 29 to 30 July 2026. The FASA Chairman, Mr Haji Mohamed Safwan bin Othman, participated as a panellist in the session on ASEAN’s role in advancing rules-based maritime cooperation. The FASA Vice-Chairman and Secretary General also attended the Forum, representing FASA and supporting its engagement with regional media stakeholders.
During the panel discussion, the FASA Chairman highlighted the importance of shipping to ASEAN’s trade and regional connectivity, and the need for safe, secure and rules-based shipping lanes. He also emphasised the importance of greater regional cooperation, regulatory harmonisation and investment in maritime infrastructure and clean fuels.
He also highlighted the impact of the Strait of Hormuz situation on shipping, seafarers and insurance costs, and shared FASA’s efforts to explore the establishment of an ASEAN-based Protection and Indemnity (P&I) insurance club. FASA’s participation provided an opportunity to represent the shipping industry’s perspectives in discussions on ASEAN’s maritime cooperation and economic resilience.
